Itinerary: Normandy to Paris July 11-23, 2017
July 11-14: “Pre-pre Tour” Paris on our own
July 14-16: Santana Pre-Tour of Normandy and environs
Day 1: Bastille Day! Guided walking tour; dinner; fireworks
Day 2: Guided tour of Omaha Beach and Interpretive Center
Day 3: Utah Beach and Museum at Ste. Mere Eglise
Afternoon Bike Assembly
July 17-23: Leuftner’s Amadeus Diamond River Cruise
Day 1: Test ride and embarkation
Day 2: Ride through Le Havre and Honfleur; visit to a Calvados (apple brandy) distillery
Cruise through locks to Vieux Bassin (old inner harbor)
Day 3: Ride in Rouen (where Joan of Arc spent her final days).
Day 4: Ride to a guided tour of La Roche Guyon (a Seine River castle used by Rommel in advance of suspected allied landings).
Day 5: Ride through the village of Girverny, with a stop at Monet’s home, studio, gardens including the famous lily pond that dominated Monet’s final works.
Along all of these rides, we’ll cycle past buildings, bridges and landscapes that appear in the works of Degas, Boudin, Pissaro, Cézanne, Sisley, van Gogh and Renoir.
Day 6: Bike into Paris to meet our boat parked in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
Day 7: Group photo under the Tower; a ride up from the Seine, past Place de la Concord, down the Champs-Elysee and back to the boat. Afternoon ringside seats to watch the final stage of the Tour de France in Paris.
