Itinerary: Prague to Budapest, 2017
July 25-28: Santana Pre-Tour of Prague
Including tour of the Pilsner Urquell brewery!
Embarkation and cruise into Germany to the Bavarian Village of Vilshofen
Afternoon Bike Assembly
After dinner guided walking tour of old Passau and cathedral with world’s largest pipe organ.
July 17-23: Leuftner’s Amadeus Elegant River Cruise
Day 1: Bike through the Danube’s Shlogen Gorge onboard lunch in Aschach, then ride or cruise to Linz
Day 2: Ride from Grein to Melk to meet the ship for lunch followed by a guided tour of the town’s famous Abbey. Afternoon ride includes the Aggstein Castle, a swampy nature preserve and a solar-powered ferry crossing. The ride finishes through wine villages ending with guided tours of three heurigen, in small family-owned wine cellars.
Day 3: Vienna (Schoebrunn Castle, city walking tours, evening cycling to Vienese heurigen (wine restaurants/shops)
Day 4: Cycle from Vienna to lunch at a medieval walled town, an old “no-man’s land” between former Soviet checkpoints into the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.
Day 5: Ride from Bratislava into Budapest, Hungary, passing deserted collective farms, Esztergom’s Basilica (Unesco heritage sight) to Hungary’s strategic Danube Bend.
Day 6: A ferry for a ride on the long Danube Island leading to the artists’ town of Szentendre.
Day 7: Locally guided bicycle tour of Budapest
Day 8: Bike packing and departure
